If you are a beginner, someone just thinking about Kickboxing or someone who has been Kickboxing for some time, there are some tips that hold true at all levels. We’ve provided the first 6 tips on our last blog entry: 1. Keep your hands up!; 2. Keep your chin down; 3. BREATHE; 4. Tight fist position; 5. Throw punches with speed and technique vs. power; 6. Use combinations.
Here are three additional tips to remember as you spar…
Tip 1: MOVE IN – STRIKE – MOVE OUT: After your done with your punch/kick combination, move out and away to either side. Get in, do your work, move out… but don’t back straight up — move to the side or circle around your opponent at an angle.
Tip 2: USE YOUR JAB! Your jab is fast and can come to your rescue quickly. It also distracts your opponent who will be watching your jab hand move while you are preparing another strike.
3: COVER UP: If you get into trouble, make sure to protect your face and head. Bring your forearms in front of your face, covering your jaw as well. Protect… then move!
