There are two basic types of kickboxing – aerobic and sport. Both include kicking and punching which by nature give you a great cardio workout. The sport involves learning strategies and proper form with these movements, plus a lot of footwork, body movement and blocking abilities. The cardio classes at most gyms are just for that…. cardio. A good workout without any other elements.
At the Boca Raton Karate & Kickboxing Academy, our Kickboxing gives you the best of both. If your focus is exercise, you will definitely achieve your goal. Plus you will learn proper form and how to move your body if you ever are faced with an opponent. The self-defense aspect of karate and kickboxing is equally important. Learn how to use these kickboxing elements properly and safely. Hopefully you will never have to use them unless you choose to compete in a tournament, but it’s good to have these tools just in case… You will also increase your flexibility, strength and endurance.
A few tips as you get started with your new kickboxing routine:
-Kickboxing is a high-energy exercise. Everyone starts at sometime, in some place. Whatever your time and place is, is fine. Know you limits, be patient. Understand any injuries you may have and how to work within your safety zone. Build as you go and in no time, you’ll be participating like an old pro.
-Find the right instructor for you. We recommend someone with a black belt in the martial arts and/or group class certified to teach exercise. Your instructor should be able to assist you in adapting the routine to accommodate your level and physical ability.
-Try a class or two before committing. Find a school that allows you to jump into a class or two so you get a feel of the instructor, the routine and the environment.
-Dress for comfort. Clothing should be loose to allow you to kick and punch freely. Make sure to wear gloves to protect your hands if actually hitting targets or bags – especially for beginner.
– Make sure you are eating an hour or so prior to class for proper energy and most importantly, hydrate before, during and after class.
