Professional athletes know that getting enough rest is essential to peak performance, but what about the rest of us that exercise on a regular basis, but we aren’t professionals?  When it comes to taking a break, we all can fall victim to over training…. even the pros often times over train and feel guilty when they take a day off…just like us.

The fact for all who exercise is this… the body repairs and strengthens itself during rest time, between workouts, and continuous daily training without real breaks can weaken you – even the most vigorous, professional athlete.

Rest days are necessary for both physiological and psychological reasons.  Muscles repair themselves during rest.  The repair is how one gets stronger.  And for mental health, too much working out can create an imbalance in home, work and fun time.  If you are always exhausted or muscle sore, then you aren’t feeling your best and enjoying life as you should be.

So build that rest time into your workout plan.  2 days are recommended per week.  Rest and enjoy!
